Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno State, MI is currently active in the WASH and Protection sectors for improving the lives of both the IDP population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. They include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. The Protection activities are mainly in the areas of GBV prevention and response through provision of case management services. Malteser International thereby applies a participatory, gender sensitive and inclusive approach.
To support of our work in Borno State Nigeria, Malteser International is looking for motivated Montioring and Evaluation Assistant (Maternity Cover) - National Position.
Working under the supervision and guidance of the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer, the M&E Assistant will be based in Maiduguri Office. The position will support measurement in the field office. The M&E Assistant will support the M&E officer in managing day to day M&E tasks arising in the field office and providing technical support to field teams to ensure effective implementation of the projects in all MI field locations.
Your responsibilities:
- Assist with routine data collection and entry for various project interventions implemented in the field and ensure that complete, accurate, clean and consistent data is shared with the M&E Officer for data analysis and action planning purposes
- Assist the M&E officer in ensuring proper filing and storage of M&E documents, including questionnaires, monitoring reports, data sets, etc., and submit weekly and monthly updates to the M&E Officer on M&E activities conducted in the field
- Assist program staff with survey planning and implementation, specifically by preparing logistics needed, participating in data collection and cleaning
- Keenly track project progress using standardized data collection tools and methodologies
- Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and other associated guidelines
- Support the M&E officer in the compilation of monthly reports through provision of timely accurate and updated data
- Support project teams to prepare activity reports and documentation of best practices, lessons learnt, assessment reports and also, support program staff in continuous improvement of data quality and support project staff to frequently use data for program improvement
Your profile:
- University degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or any social science related field with a minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience in the MEAL sector
- Good analytical and writing skills, very good team spirit and a demonstrated willingness to improve own knowledge and skills by participating actively in any training sessions and capacity building activities
- Knowledge of MS Office software (including Word, Excel, Outlook) and a basic understanding of data analysis packages such as SPSS, Epi-Info, etc.
- Fluency in English, Hausa and other local dialects in the context of Borno State (speaking/reading/writing)
- Strong report writing skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to plan, balance and cope with competing priorities

- Start Date: June 2023
- Duty Station: Maiduguri with travels to field locations
- Duration of contract: 4 months
