Malteser International (MI) has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria (Borno, Taraba and Adamawa States), MI is currently active in the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Protection, and Food, Nutrition Security and Livelihoods (FNSL) sectors, aiming to save lives and improve the well-being of both internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. WASH activities focus on improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene through activities such as non-food-item-distribution, solarizing boreholes, rehabilitating hand pumps, constructing latrines, and promoting hygiene practices. Protection activities target the prevention of and response to gender-based violence (GBV). FNSL interventions include micro-gardening, rearing pullets for egg production, composting, food demonstrations, referrals of malnutrition cases to nutrition partners, and community sensitization on nutrition. MI applies a participatory, gender-sensitive and inclusive approach.
For our work in Adamawa, Nigeria, Malteser International is looking for a qualified Food Nutrition Security and Livelihood Officer – National Position.
The FNSL Officer will ensure FNSL actitivities, including Peacebuilding, Social Cohesion, and Livelihood Support. Moreover, she or he will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ensuring the timely delivery of tasks, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. In fulfilling these duties, the FNSL Officer must ensure full compliance with MI and donor regulations, including administrative, human resources, finance, safety and security, and logistics procedures in the workplace.
Your responsibilities:
- Project Implementation: Support the implementation of FNSL activities, including peacebuilding, social cohesion events, and gender-sensitive programming in targeted communities
- Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners, community leaders, government stakeholders, youth, and women groups to foster collaboration and ownership of project goals
- Training & Capacity Building: Assist in training community mobilizers, beneficiaries, and local leaders on FNSL, peacebuilding, and livelihood skills across diverse social groups
- Data Collection & Reporting: Collect daily field data, prepare weekly reports, and ensure compliance with MI standards in documentation, archiving, and reporting
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Monitor project progress, beneficiary engagement, vendor disbursement, and impact; participate in assessments and recommend adaptations to improve program effectiveness
- Coordination & Representation: Attend coordination meetings, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to planning and evaluations as directed by the FNSL Manager
- Compliance & Ethical Standards: Uphold humanitarian principles, apply Do No Harm and conflict-sensitive approaches, and ensure gender mainstreaming throughout project activities
Your profile:
- Bachelor's degree in peacebuilding, social cohesion, livelihoods, or a related field
- At least 2-3 years of experience in livelihoods, peacebuilding, and social cohesion projects
- Excellent project management, partnership management, and coordination skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to see the big picture and make sound decisions
- Proactive, resourceful, solutions- and results-oriented, with a genuine interest in continuous learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead project teams and work collaboratively with partners to deliver innovative programs
- Ability to work effectively with local governments, uphold MI values and standards, and perform in stressful or challenging environments, including travel to remote field locations and partner sites

- Duration of contract: until December 2025 with the possibility of renewal

- Note: This position is contingent upon funding. Recruitment is initiated in anticipation of grant approval, and the final offer will be subject to grant agreement signature.
