Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno State, MI is currently active in the WASH sector for improving the lives of both the IDP population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. They include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. Malteser International thereby applies a participatory, gender sensitive and inclusive approach ,food nutrition,security and livelihood.
For its work in Maiduguri Borno State, Nigeria, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Health Manager – National Position.
The Health Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing health programs to ensure quality healthcare service delivery. The role involves managing health teams, ensuring compliance with national and Global health standards, monitoring program performance, and contributing to strategic development of health interventions.
Your responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of health and nutrition programs, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies, donor requirements, and approved budgets.
- Conduct needs assessments, manage data collection, analyze health indicators, and ensure timely, accurate reporting and documentation for internal and donor use.
- Provide technical guidance on public health interventions, ensuring compliance with national standards, donor policies, and quality assurance protocols.
- Supervise, mentor, and build capacity of health staff, including performance management, training, and promoting effective teamwork.
- Integrate health, nutrition, food security, and WASH components to ensure coordinated programming and improved service delivery.
- Engage in stakeholder coordination, representing the organization in meetings with government, donors, and partners while strengthening community engagement.
- Support compliance, risk management, project development, procurement planning, and other assigned tasks to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.
Your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5–7 years of experience in health program management; experience in NGO or humanitarian settings is an advantage
- Good understanding of health systems and public health principles
- Proven experience in managing teams and health projects with strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent planning and organizational abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong analytical and reporting skills
What we offer:

- Duty Station: Maiduguri Borno State Nigeria
- Duration of contract: December 2026 with possibility of extension.
