Since the start of the war in eastern Ukraine in 2014, Malteser International has been working with three local partner organizations in the sector of mental health and psycho-social support (MHPSS). As a result of the Russian attack in February 2022, Malteser International has expanded its humanitarian activities in Ukraine with a strong partner focus to include relief distributions in war-affected areas – winterization – a scale-up of Mental Health and Psycho-social support – as well as social support and cohesion.

In support of the current and envisioned program implementation and to reinforce the capacities of our local partners in Ukraine, Malteser International is looking for a Senior Finance Officer for its office in Kyiv.

Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the Senior Finance Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with MI’s standards and rules in the finance field, financial strategy and steering as well as operational financial management within his/her area of responsibility. In addition , s/he is in charge of supporting the Finance Manager in his/her functions. More specifically, she/he will oversee the implementation and follow-up of financial management and control tools. She/he will also be in charge of training and building the capacities of the partners’ finance staff.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide support, direction, monitoring, oversight, and guidance on the financial aspects of program activities implemented through partner organizations
  • Ensure adherence to MI policies, handbooks, guidelines, and donor requirements
  • Prepare and submit reports, provide analysis, and ensure proper filing of all supporting documents
  • Support the Finance Manager in procedures and required training for the support team
  • Assist partners and project staff with financial matters
  • Maintain budget control and monitor cash flow for partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager

Your profile:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a humanitarian or development context
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; a master’s degree or professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred
  • Experience working in a senior finance position within a humanitarian context
  • Professional knowledge of accounting and auditing (preferable)
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluency in both Ukrainian and English (written and spoken)

  • Duty Station: Kyiv/Ukraine with frequent travel to other oblasts 
  • Duration of contract: One year (with possibility to extend)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package
